At St Ignatius, students have multiple opportunities to compete and develop their skills through a variety of sports programs, fostering both athletic growth and teamwork. In addition to our school Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming carnivals, there are other opportunities we foster physical development.
Zone 4 Carnivals
We are proud to be part of the Zone 4, a cluster of 12 Catholic schools, which provides our students with fantastic opportunities to represent St Ignatius in Athletics, Cross Country, and Swimming. This affiliation allows our students to compete at a higher level, showcasing their talents and dedication while fostering a sense of school spirit and community. Through these competitions, our students not only develop their athletic skills but also learn valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
Zone 4 Gala Days
In Term 3, Students from Year 3 to 6 at St Ignatius also have the exciting opportunity to participate in two Gala Days, where they can compete in AFL, Soccer, Touch Football, and Netball. These events provide a wonderful platform for our students to develop their skills, enjoy team sports, and build lasting friendships.
Northern Eagles District Association (NED)
St Ignatius is a member of the NED which allows a representative pathway across multiple sports. Students are selected to represent St Ignatius at Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming at the NED trials and have the opportunity to represent at a district, regional and state level. St Ignatius has many students who excel at their chosen sport and are supported to attend District Trials. Sports can include basketball, netball, soccer, touch, rugby league, AFL and more.
Interschool Sport
In Term 2 all Senior Students in Year 5 and 6 represent the St Ignatius and compete in the NED Interschool sport competition.
Sporting Competitions
Queensland Catholic Schools Cup – Netball
Each year St Ignatius students are selected to represent the school in the QC Cup which is a primary school netball competition with teams from catholic schools across the state.
BCE Rugby 7's
The BCE Rugby 7's is a tag and tackle Rugby Tournament that St Ignatius teams compete in each year. We enter both boys' and girls' teams in the Under 10 and 12 category.
Swimming Program
We offer an exceptional swimming program for all students from Prep to Year 6! Our program is designed to cater to every skill level, ensuring that each child gains confidence and proficiency in the water. With experienced instructors and a supportive environment, students will not only learn essential swimming techniques but also enjoy the numerous health benefits that come with regular swimming.
Sport Workshops
Throughout the school year, opportunities arise when external sports organisations offer workshops and further development students skills for various sporting codes - e.g. Qld Cricket, AFL Qld, Brisbane Roar, NRL, Qld Rugby Union, Softball Qld and Hockey Queensland.
Play Spaces
The adventure playground (Coram playspace) is situated at the front of the school (Grove Crescent) for the exclusive use of students in Years P-3 with equipment to develop all of the major muscle groups. Quins Quarter on Susan Palmer Field is another play space where students can challenge their gross motor abilities.
