St Ignatius School

The P&F’s aim is "to provide a forum to assist the education of our children and to support the school in any way possible". This includes the traditional role of fundraising but it is also about building and keeping the school community together – in meetings and through functions where parents can interact, seek information about the school’s running, contribute, socialize and provide support for each other.

The P&F operates within a constitution adopted from the Federation of Parents and Friends Associations of Catholic Schools in Queensland.

We hold monthly meetings (except December and January), generally on the second Wednesday at 7.30pm. Every parent and friend of the school is not just entitled to attend, but is encouraged and welcome to do so. Our meetings are structured but informal - and go no later than 9.30 (promise!). Our Principal, Roycelyn Wilden, attends every meeting to provide an update of the school’s activities, so this is a good forum to hear what’s going on.

Each year in November a P&F committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee consists of:

Vice President/ Class Coordinators/ Care & Concern Leader
Treasurer
Minutes and Correspondence Secretary,
Fund raising/Event coordinator

One way or another, the P&F is involved in, responsible for or helps coordinate;

Tuckshop – which is open every Friday and staffed by parent volunteers. Tuckshop is a great way to meet other parents and see your child during school hours. Tuckshop provides a selection of healthy food and drink items for lunch and afternoon tea.
TechnoDogs (hotdogs) which are available for lunch every Wednesday - also staffed by parent volunteers. It is called TechnoDogs because profits from this activity go towards the purchase of technological equipment.
Uniform shop, open on Wednesday afternoons and various other times.
Prep/Year 1 Picnic Afternoon Tea held in January prior to school starting. An informal BYO gathering afternoon tea at a local park in the week before school starts, where you can meet your next year’s teachers, other new parents and children.
“Morning Tea and Tears” for Prep parents on the first day of school – a chance for a cuppa and access to a tissue box after your little one heads off to the classroom for their first day of school.
Easter for Everyone – Easter eggs for the children and a donation to a worthy charity.
Other fundraising and social events including Mothers Day and Fathers Day stalls and a selection of Discos, Bush Dances, Trivia nights or other similar functions.

Goldicott – Opera Under the Stars – a beautiful night listening to Queensland Opera singers on the lawn in front of the Sisters Of Mercy residence, Goldicott, above the school. Please visit our new Website at www.goldicottopera.com for information on this year's event.

We ask only that everyone contributes when, if and what they can to the P&F – whether that be a little time, ideas, or financially. As with most organizations like ours we rely totally on the help and time of volunteer parents.

The profits we generate from the fundraisers are used to purchase additional equipment and resources for the children – including books and literacy tools, information technology, playground apparatus and upgrades, sports equipment, safety gear and so on. We have also recently been able to install air conditioning throughout the school, and make a significant contribution towards the renovation of the school hall.

The P&F is also there to help as much as possible should any family have a crisis situation. For example, several years ago assistance was provided to a family whose house was destroyed by fire.

Also, a special mention about our Class Coordinators: These are one or two volunteer parents from each class who act as an intermediary with the P&F, facilitate a caring, assisting and social environment (organize transport if your car breaks down, arrange morning tea get-togethers, etc) and coordinate the particular fundraising events allocated to each class (we try to share the load).
